With the clock ticking on getting the health reform bill signed into law, President Obama trekked to the perennial swing bastion of Ohio yesterday. His mission was twofold. Besides trying to convince the state’s most liberal congressman to vote yes although the bill will most likely not have a public option, he was taking his message out to the people — in a last-ditch effort to sway a public sympathy now heavily residing in GOP quarters.
Part of his tour in the state included stumps on Medicare policy, since the GOP have effectively brought public opinion into its fold has a defender of the entitlement program — one’s solvency the party says is in jeopardy with the Obama plan.
He should be very concerned this morning. Opposition to the reform bill as it stands courtesy the Senate is at 200 House members, including 7 Dems who supported their version of the reform bill in November. The magic number is 216 House members’ yea votes, since the GOP is unified in its opposition. | LINK
