The continued climb of unemployment figures in this economy has President Obama concerned about job growth. It has also apparently given him some cover and reason with which to begin a renewed pitch for a public option. Yes, the dreaded public option, two words whose meaning at this point is notable for a decided lack of meaning. Pressured by progressives disappointed by his slow movement so far on reform, the president himself is calling senators on the eve of final debate before bill’s passage in an effort to breathe life back into this ideal.
Flanked by doctors (complete with lab coats and well positioned for the richest of photo ops), Obama spoke in the WH Rose Garden — spinning the benefits of a public option in today’s economy as a small business startup advantage and incentivizer for entrepreneurs. Time, which is ticking rather loudly now, is not on Obama’s side — as he endeavors to please both progressives (with action) and centrists (with reason). | LINK
