Senate Democrats Imply Setting Own Standards on Pending Health Bill Passage at Cost of Obama

Is Barack Obama’s push for healthcare reform in his own image about to become a bust? The platform upon which he formed the cornerstone for his progressive base; the “change” he was ready to implement for the country all in the name of fairness and equality of access to health services; and the notion of bipartisanship he was extremely confident he could muster once elected — all seem, now, to be relics of an erstwhile glory our president is having a very difficult time recapturing at this most crucial point in his presidency.

The battle over who is most right in this healthcare debate has begun to decay, and it’s a cruel irony for the president who is turning the tables in the quest for a solution: the democrats. Already, Senate Dems are trying to rein in the bureaucracy, as well as the trillion-dollar pricetag. It is the goal some of these key Senators to play the “cost card” to attempt to squelch any debate on their actions toward reconciliation before a vote. Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) appears to be leading the charge.

Anyone who thinks the House bill, which, number one, is not paid for and, number two, bends the cost curve in the wrong way, is a product that would pass the United States Senate, I think they’re mistaken.

For the most part the WH appears to be standing true to original post projections for its reform plan. However, it looks increasingly apparent that comprise will be the rule of the day in the Senate to get something passed. Question is, who is willing to bend the most — Senate Republicans or Democrats? | LINK
