In many ways, the woes surrounding the financing of healthcare mirror what is happening with the economy as a whole. In advance of the reform bill, lawmakers continue to search for ways to offset the cost of care in this country. A new target has emerged: health plans that reward top tier policyholders with waived copays and granted unlimited provider networks. They’re called “Cadillac” plans, and some Democrats want a tax on those who are covered by them. In a way, going after a private entity and taxing it is a questionable approach to solving any major funding problem. It simply increases the cost burden for care access in general.
